There’s just something magical about Bhutan. Maybe it’s the beautiful landscape or the unique cultural heritage that makes you feel like you’ve taken a tumble back in time, or perhaps it’s the really warm, happy locals that you meet along the way.
Either ways, the Kingdom Of The Thunder Dragon is one of our traveller’s favourite destinations – but don’t just take our word for it. We asked four ladies who journeyed to Bhutan on one of our women-only group trips to share their favourite Bhutanese experiences and memories.
This is what they had to say:
1)“THE PICNIC LUNCH BY THE LAKE AT PARO WITH A FAMILY SERVING TRADITIONAL BHUTANESE FOOD WITH LOCAL WINE WAS A VERY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE” – Lalitha Damodaran
The picture-perfect scenery, traditional food, a little Bhutanese girl serving us along with a lovely dog hanging around in the open – it couldn’t have been better. And the lunch took me back to my childhood picnic days. The other ladies in the group and I dipped our feet in the lake and threw stones in the water, laughing, joking and bonding throughout.
2)“RIVER RAFTING WAS MY FAVOURITE EXPERIENCE” – Srividya Balasubramanian
It was so scenic and pristine that I never wanted it to end! Indeed, we actually started rowing slower just because we wanted the journey to last longer. Afterwards, a few of us (the crazy ones) took a couple of dips in the ice cold water, and then we sat by the riverside with our feet in the river – I just couldn’t get enough.
3)“Before we knew it, we’d become a group of 11 enthusiastic women having the time of our lives!” – Mani Bharathi Sundara
There are times in life when you need to connect with yourself and spend time with your girlfriends, especially for women like me (married with two teenage kids!) and that’s why my trip to Bhutan was especially great. The late night gossips sessions with the ladies, the anthakshari singing during bus journeys, the dressing up and incessant chatting all made this trip truly memorable.
4)“I speak for all of us when I say we returned from the Tiger’s Nest Monastery with stronger and lighter souls” – Amie Thacker
Simple things along the way to Tiger’s Nest brought me great joy – the flowers, mushrooms, streams of water and the chatter of my fellow travellers. I speak for all of us when I say that we returned with stronger and lighter souls.
