Day Wise Itinerary

Welcome Dinner In Baku

Welcome to Azerbaijan!

Enjoy the view of the capital city and the beautiful Caspian Sea as you land.

You’ll be met by our local representative and then transferred to your hotel room.  Check in and unwind.

In the evening: time for a welcome dinner ! Enjoy your first taste of Azerbaijani cuisine at a local restaurant. Tonight's festive atmosphere is perfect for getting to know your new travel mates and tour leader better.

Head back to the hotel afterwards for some restful sleep.

Get to know Baku!

The many sights of Baku will charm you through and through as you set off to sightseeing in the afternoon.

Start with the older part the city, ‘Icheri Sheher’ (Old Town), located centrally in the heart of Baku. Also explore Baku’s almost metropolitan city Absheron Peninsula. Azerbaijan is often compared with a great eagle, stooping into the Caspian, with the Absheron peninsula forming the giant raptor’s beak.

Then: the beautiful Shirvanshah’s Palace (once the house of ancient rulers) and the iconic Maiden Tower (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Many legends and mysteries surround the naming of the tower.

One of them is a fascinating tale of a fiery-haired maiden, who saved Baku's people from siege and slavery by defeating the invading general single-handedly.

Later: head to Yanardag - a natural eternal flame which blazes continuously on a hillside overlooking the beautiful Caspian sea. We’ll then visit Ateshgya an Indian temple of fire worshippers. Once accessible via the famous Grand Trunk Road, Zoroastrians used to make the long pilgrimage from Northwest India to visit this temple.

Of  Yoghurt Making and Souvenir Shopping

Fill up on power-packed breakfast as you have a long, but fun-filled day ahead.

First up: at Shamakhi, we enrol in a yogurt-making master class. Learn the tips and tricks to make a delicious serving of yogurt, straight from the experts!

Recommended: On your way to Lahij, drive through the Girdimanchay River Canyon, a 5th century place rich in its historic and architectural values.

The old streets of Lahij are a perfect place to buy souvenirs for your loved ones back home. The eye-catching sidewalks might tempt you to ditch your car and instead take a walk as you see the medieval water supply and sewage systems. After shopping, you will check-in at the hotel at Shamakhi.

In the evening: the highlight of the day!  You’ll enjoy dinner with a local family here. Get ready to try some mouthwatering qatab (Azerbaijan’s version of roti), soft and thin, mostly complemented with melt-in-the-mouth kebabs. Do not miss out on trying the national dish Dovga,a soup traditionally made from plain yoghurt and herbs. You’ll realise, after a whole day of driving and shopping, there’s nothing better than a rich, homemade Lahij meal made lovingly by a local family!

Say hello to the Udi tribe…

After a sumptuous breakfast, we head to Nij village to meet the Udis. For those who don’t know, Udis are one of the oldest inhabitants of Azerbaijan, who speak the Udi language and follow their own ancient version of Christianity. For those interested in the study and history of religion, this is one place that would interest you.

Then: time for a filling lunch and then onwards to Sheki. Once you reach, visit the Sheki Khan Palace, known to be one of the most lavish monuments of the 18th century. Built in 1797 by Muhammed Hasan Khan as a summer’s retreat for the Sheki Khans, it is renowned for the lavish decoration of its exterior and interior.

Later: head to the ancient village of Kish. Here, you can visit the  Church of Saint Elishe, the first church to ever have been built in the Caucasus, in this village, en route.

After that, we check-in at the hotel and rest for the day!

Hello, Georgia!

After a good breakfast, we bid adieu to Azerbaijan and its colourful alleys!

We now cross the border (Georgia-Azerbaijan border) and reach Georgia. Enter the Eastern part of Georgia, famous for its viticulture and winemaking traditions.

Pass through the beautiful landscapes of vineyards here and enter Khaketi Vine Region. Indulge yourself in some wine tasting and wine making with a local family here. Later, we will also see Shuamta Monastery of the 4th century, and Tsinandali, where we will see the famous Georgian poet and prince Chavchavadze’s  summer residence, and his vinery.

Then: roll up your sleeves for it is time to indulge in some Georgian bread making, after which we will gorge on a delicious Georgian meal. Learn the local ways of toasting and table etiquettes. There will also be traditional folklore for your entertainment!

Known as ‘the city of love’, Sighnaghi is a Georgian town along the ancient Silk Road. After spending some time here, we head straight to Tbilisi. As we check into the hotel room, we tuck in early for the eventful next day!

Getting to know Georgia

After a hearty breakfast, we go to the stone town of Uplistsikhe, which dates back to 4th century!

Exploring Uplistsikhe (meaning ‘The Fortress of God’) feels a little like taking a step back in time. This 3000 year-old cave town has more than a 100 halls, temples, theatres, pharmacies, prisons and streets all carved out of stone with primitive tools, and even had up to 20,000 people living in it, it’s incredible.

Then, we visit Mtskheta – the ancient capital of Georgian kings, to enjoy its beauty and the architecture of ancient monasteries like Jvari and Svetitskhoveli. We will also visit one of the oldest settlements in Georgia and end our journey in Gori, the city situated in the scenic Kartli valley.

Here, walk through the incredible Joseph Stalin Museum, dedicated to the life of Joesph Stalin, the ruler of Soviet Union who was born in Gori  in this city. This museum was shut down after the downfall of Soviet Union in 1989, but has recently opened for visitors to explore.

Sulphur Baths, Old Towns and Historic Tbilisi

Rise and shine! After wearing out your soles the previous day, a sulphur bath at Tbilisi’s best is just mandatory! Soak in the hot water and relieve your exhaustion, if any.

Next up are a bunch of must-visit sights like the Narikala fortress, where you can enjoy the breathtaking panorama of the city, the Thameni Holy Trinity cathedral, the third-tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world, the glass bridge, the old towns and historic structures.

After this, brace yourself for we scoop in some time for shopping here. The shopping centres here are huge and welcome you with open arms.

Time To Head Home

Our trip comes to a blissful end on our eighth day and we transfer to the airport. Have a safe journey!
