Itinerary

Arrive - Srinagar

You are met upon arrival at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Get to know your co travellers better over a barbeque evening.

Srinagar

After breakfast visit the Mughal Gardens. Shalimar Bagh, emperor Jehangir's "Garden of Love", built for his beloved queen Nur Jehan in 1619, is famous because of their celebrated romance.
Nishat Bagh or the "Garden of Pleasure", designed in 1633 by Asaf Khan, brother of Nur Jehan, is the largest of the Mughal Gardens.
Chasma Shahi or the "Royal Spring" is the smallest of the gardens. The garden, planned by Jehangir and completed by Shah Jehan in 1632, is situated in the slope of the circling hills with the still waters of the Dal Lake below. Return to the houseboat for lunch.
In the afternoon, visit the Jama Masjid, Srinagar's most important mosque, which is an impressive wooden structure, notable for its colonnades of lofty deodar (cedar) pillars supporting the roof.
Shah-i-Hamadan originally built in 1395, is named after a great saint and stands on the right bank of the river Jhelum. Dinner at the hotel.

Srinagar - Pahalgam

After breakfast depart on the drive to Pahalgam, which is situated at an altitude of 2130 meters and is probably the most popular hill resort in the Kashmir valley. The 2-hour journey is a beautiful drive through saffron fields, fir covered mountains and flower strewn pastures. En route, visit Achabal. The Mughal gardens in this small town were laid out by Nur Jehan and completed by Jahanara, daughter of Emperor Shah Jehan, in 1640. It is one of the most carefully designed of the Kashmir gardens with canals, fountains, terraces and pavilions and was said to be the favourite retreat of Nur Jehan.

Anantnag has a number of sulphur springs, popular for their curative properties. The largest spring is believed to be the home of Ananta, the serpent on which Lord Vishnu reclines and from which the town gets its name. Only a few kilometres beyond is the temple of Martand, the most impressive ancient ruin in Kashmir, built in the 8th century and an important Hindu pilgrimage centre.
The brooks broaden into streams and the roar of waterfalls can be heard as one approaches Pahalgam, situated at the junction of the Lidder and Sheshnag rivers. On arrival, check in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Pahalgam

Breakfast at the hotel.
Pahalgam offers an experience of alpine beauty at the confluence of two wooded valleys with snow capped peaks rising behind them. A common sight in Pahalgam is its many shepherds driving their flocks of sheep along the paths all around the town.
It also offers some beautiful day hikes in the thickly forested hills. You could also explore the countryside on ponies. The mountain streams and rivers are rich in trout and anglers can try their hand at trout fishing. Baisaran, a calm and attractively beautiful meadow, is a nearby attraction. This meadow is located at an altitude of 2,438 m above the sea level. Snow clad mountains and lush pine forests add the beauty of this meadow. Overnight at the hotel

Pahalgam - Gulmarg

After a leisurely breakfast, drive 146 km (3.5 hours) to Gulmarg the 'Meadow of Flowers', situated at an altitude of 2730 m. The valley of Gulmarg is a broad bowl of sloping meadows fringed by gigantic fir and pine forests. The air is crisp and cold.
From here one gets magnificent views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges with Nanga Parbat visible to the north, Haramukh to the south and the Apharwat ridge and Sunset Peak to the east.
Gulmarg boasts one of the highest natural golf courses in the world and is also a winter sports resort with some of the finest ski slopes in the country.
You can walk up a few kilometres to Khilanmarg, an upland meadow carpeted with wild flowers in the spring, which offers a memorable and unrivalled spectacle of snow-capped peaks and the shimmering waters of Wular and other lakes in the Kashmir valley. This is also the site of Gulmarg's winter ski runs.
