Welcome to Srinagar

On arrival at Srinagar airport, you will be met by our representative, who will transfer you to a pretty
houseboat on the Dal Lake.

Spend the rest of the day, mingling with your new travel crew and getting to know them better over a tasty barbecue.

In the evening, dinner will be served at the houseboat.

Mughal Gardens + Beautiful Mosques

It’s our first chance to see Kashmir’s famous tulips in bloom!

First up: take in Srinagar’s famed Mughal Gardens. The bonus of visiting them this time of the year are hundreds and hundreds of tulips, at their most spectacular.

We’ll visit the two most popular gardens, the Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh. The brilliant colours of Persian lilac, sweet-smelling roses, scarlet poppies, huge hollyhocks and black poppies bedazzle the eye and perfume the air. Each, dotted by almond and cherry trees and delicate Mughal fountains, bordered by the lovely Dal Lake and framed by the mountains in the background, looks like a holiday card in the making.

We’ll also stop by Chashme Shahi, the smallest of the Mughal gardens, but just as picturesque as the others.

Head back to the houseboat for a hearty lunch.

In the afternoon: visit Jama Masjid, the biggest mosque in the Kashmir valley, and the distinctly spired Shah-i- Hamadan, one of Kashmir’s most beautiful mosques. It’s interiors are decorated in elaborate wood-carvings and papier-mache reliefs.

We’ll have dinner at the houseboat.

  Hotel:  Deluxe Houseboat (or similar)

Drive to Pahalgam

Today, you will drive to Pahalgam, “The Valley of Shepherds”. If there is one place which encapsulates the beauty of Kashmir, it is this sylvan retreat. And the 2 hour drive is just as scenic as the destination, with saffron fields, fir covered mountains and flower strewn pastures around every bend.

En route, stop at Achabal, a small town known for its popular Kashmiri Mughal gardens, that were said to be the favourite retreat of Nur Jahan. Marvel at the tulips here and dip your feet in the cool springs.

We’ll also visit Anantnag, which has a number of sulphur springs that are said to have healing properties, and then the Martand sun temple, an architectural masterpiece, which has featured in many movies, including Haider.

The brooks broaden into streams and the roar of waterfalls can be heard as one approaches Pahalgam, situated at the junction of the Lidder and Sheshnag rivers. On arrival, check in at the hotel.

   Meals:   Breakfast, Dinner

Hotel:  Hotel Kalohoi Greens (or similar)

Explore Pahalgam’s natural splendour

With endless meadows, shepherds with their flocks of sheep, pine forests and striking snow-clad Himalayan peaks, it’s no wonder that Pahalgam has been featured in many Bollywood movies. After breakfast at the hotel, you’re free to spend the day exploring the area.

There are plenty of ways to do so. You could choose to go on a day hike and take in the sights of the countryside, the smell of the pine trees, and fill your lungs with fresh air. Or, take a pony ride through the woods and streams. You could even try your hand at trout fishing. The streams meandering through
Pahalgam are teeming with trout’s and anglers.

Baisaran is another must-visit place in Pahalgam. It’s a spectacular meadow surrounded by a pine forest. Towering mountains loom ahead. Just lie on the meadows, enjoying the riot of white, pink, red and yellow tulips that spill over the landscape.

Gorgeous views in Gulmarg

After a leisurely breakfast, drive 3.5 hours to Gulmarg, called “The Meadow of Flowers”, although another apt would be the “Switzerland of India”.

You’ll be greeted with views of immense Himalayan ranges including the Nanga Parbat, Harmukh, Apharwat ridge and Sunset peaks. Everything around you is draped in snow, making it feel like a winter wonderland.

You can hike up a few kilometres to Khilanmarg, an upland meadow carpeted with tulips.
Surrounded by giants like Nanga Parbat and the twin peaks of Nun and Kun, it’s a visual treat
for those who make it this far. If hiking feels cumbersome, don’t worry, you can hire a pony.

Shikara ride on Dal Lake + ‘Me Time’

Drive back to Srinagar this the morning.

Later: take a Shikara ride on Dal Lake. his is one of the most relaxing and soothing experiences in Kashmir. Sit back and take in the view of the Himalayan mountains and the peaceful silence, broken only by the sound of the oar caressing the waters.

You’ll be free to enjoy ‘me time’ for the rest of the evening. You can go shopping for Kashmiri goods such as soft, embroidered leatherware, fine woollen shawls, or painted bowls and boxes and sample some street food as well; lotus root, potato, chilli and fish fritters in spicy Kashmiri batter is tasty!

We’ll enjoy our final dinner in Kashmir tonight at the hotel.
