Day Wise Itinerary

Welcome to Japan

Touchdown Tokyo! Time to get excited; you’re in Japan and at the beginning of a truly unforgettable trip.

Our local representative will be waiting at Narita Airport to welcome and assist you. Then, enjoy your first glimpse of Tokyo as you’re driven in a private coach to your hotel. Check-in and unwind.

In the evening: bond with your new travel crew and trip leader at a welcome dinner. Time to put your chopstick skills to good use, try a bit of traditional fare, and toast to an amazing 7 days together!

Tokyo, Owls & Sushi

Ohayou Gozaimasu! Fill up on breakfast at the hotel as you have a busy day ahead exploring Tokyo with a local guide by your side.

On our route: explore the Imperial Palace and see a 360-degree panoramic view over Tokyo at the Tokyo Sky Tree, the tallest tower in the world.  Then, we’ll head to the Rikugien Park, one of the city’s most beautiful spots, especially in late autumn where you can enjoy the brilliant shades of red and orange foliage.

Then, an offbeat treat: an Owl Café! Meet small, large, majestic and kawaii (cute) owls at the Akiba Fukurou, and pet and play with your new feathered friends. You can even pick your favourite owl and take a picture together, which the staff will print it for you as a gift.

For dinner, try your hand at making sushi! Under the watchful eye of your instructor, prepare different kinds of sushi for you to enjoy. Toppings include the famous raw fish often seen with sushi, but also vegetables, meat, and other ingredients, so everyone can find something tasty to eat.

Top off the day at Shibuya, the site of the famous Shibuya scramble crossing! Crowded with international, it’s the best place to shop in Tokyo. Afterwards, we’ll head back to the hotel (the bus will be available till 9 PM to drop you back at the hotel. If you’d like to stay a little longer, use the metro or taxi to reach the hotel.

 To Mt. Takao & Back

Today, we’re heading out to Mount Takao, considered second only to Mt. Fuji, to see momiji (Japanese maple) in all its fall glory. We’ll spend the day taking in views of the blazing colours and visit the mountain’s temples.  #Protip Don’t forget to eat some tenguyaki, a pastry filled with sweet red bean paste, which is shaped like the face of a tengu or goblin.

We’ll take a short train ride to the cable car. Climbing in, sit back and enjoy the view as you ride up towards the summit. Near the top station, there is an observation deck from where you can look out over Tokyo, while the summit offers views of Mount Fuji on clear days.

Mt. Fuji Day

It’s Mt. Fuji day!

First however, we’ll take a coach to the Yunessun SPA Resort, where bathing in water is old-school. Instead, you’ll have the choice to take a dip in warm pools of coffee, green tea, ramen or wine! You read that right. It’s an only-in-Japan experience.

Then, onwards to Mt. Fuji. From the 5th station, which is 2300 metres above sea level, you’ll have a commanding view of the Fuji Five Lakes area are truly stunning.

Tonight, you’ll be staying in a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn.

Lakes, Waterfalls & A Bullet Train Ride

Today is all about exploring the beauty of the area around Mt. Fuji, starting with a short cruise on Lake Ashinoko. Find a comfortable seat and watch the rugged countryside drift by on your ride. And of course,  Mt. Fuji from the water is unlike any other.

Back on shore, we’ll take the Owakudani Ropeway to one of the best vantage points to see Mt. Fuji. Along the way, enjoy the panorama of the mountain plus the famous Owakudani valley dappled in fall colours, all around you.

Onto Shiraito Falls. Stretching across  a 200 metres arch, and falling from a height of 20 metres, the water spills out in hundreds of little white strings, resembling a  shimmering silk screen, from which the waterfall gets its name.  We’ll also visit the Sumatakyo Gorge, famous for its 90 m long suspension wooden bridge that stretches across the turquoise blue lake.

Then, ride the famous 320km/h Bullet Train from Shizuoka station to Osaka. Upon arrival and check-in, you’re free to explore the city and have dinner on your own.

Golden Pavilion & Dinner with a Maiko

This morning, drive to Kyoto, Japan's ancient and imperial capital, famous for incredible temples, tea gardens and markets.

Explore Kyoto’s most famous temple, Kinkakuji aka. Golden Pavilion.

Then, experience a combination of quintessentially Japanese experiences. Slip on an exquisite traditional kimono, get your hair styled, and then attend a tea ceremony, where your instructor will guide you through the ceremonial steps.

You’ll have some free time before dinner to do as you please. Recommended: don’t miss stopping by the Nishiki Food Market. Here, explore hundreds of shops selling seafood, freshly-made sushi, vegetables, snacks, traditional Japanese sweets, udon noodles and all kinds of tsukemono (pickles).

Dinner tonight is bound to be a truly memorable experience,  as all farewell dinners should be:  a private dinner in the company of a maiko (an apprentice geisha). While you enjoy the meal, which could include sushi, sashimi, vegetarian appetizers, cooked rice and dessert, your hostesses will engage you with conversation and entertain you as well, playing traditional music and performing a dance with you.

Osaka & Whiskey

This morning, we’ll make our way to the iconic Osaka Castle. Take your fill of pictures as we explore the castle and the park.

Then, head to the observatory deck in the Umeda Sky Building for sweeping views of the city (and even faraway islands), and then the Osaka Aquarium which houses a variety of sea creatures, including manta rays, ringed seals and whale sharks.

We’ll wrap up the evening in style with a Yamazaki Whiskey Tour. At the distillery, we’ll get a first-hand insight into how this famous and expensive Japanese whiskey is made, and indulge in some whiskey tasting too.

Time to head home

Sadly, it’s our last day in Japan. After breakfast, our local representative will accompany you to the airport to see you off and wish you a safe flight!
