The Amazon Jungle

Lima - Puerto Maldonado. From Lima we fly to Puerto Maldonado on the morning of day 2. Upon arrival we take a canoe along the Madre de Dios River to our jungle eco-lodge where we'll spend next two nights. At the lodge we enjoy a tasty organic buffet lunch before heading out to explore the rainforest on a nature walk. In the evening we go in search of nocturnal animals and star gaze on a twilight boat ride.

The Amazon Jungle

The following day we take a canoe ride to the lodge’s private cocha, where we can try several different native fishing techniques whilst keeping an eye out for exotic birds. After lunch, we take a boat out to the river island of Rolin to explore and learn about its ecosystem and vegetation. The day's activities end with a visit to one of the lodge’s four clay licks, where hundreds of brightly coloured parrots gather to lick the clay walls on the river bank.

Puerto Maldonado - Cuzco. We bid farewell to our jungle lodge after breakfast on day 4 and take a short canoe ride back to Puerto Maldonado to catch a flight to Cuzco. Upon arrival we check into our hotel and the rest of the day is free to relax or explore.

The next morning we enjoy guided tour of the city and surrounding ruins, taking in some of its most famous landmarks. Highlights include the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, the Kenko Amphitheatre and the Sacsayhuaman Fortress. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Sacred Valley

Cuzco - Sacred Valley. We travel to the Sacred Valley today. It's an incredible scenic journey and our first stop the famous Pisac market, which offers a wonderful array of local handicrafts, textiles and produce. There's plenty of time to barter for souvenirs before we travel on to explore the incredible Incan fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo with its giant Inca terraces built into a steep mountainside.

The Inca Trail

Sacred Valley – Km. 82 – Huayllabamba – Pacaymayo - Winaywayna. On day 7 we meet our mountain guide and porters at KM.82 and set out to trek the legendary Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. We trek for 11kms on the first day, following the Urubamba River through the picturesque Urubamba Valley to Huayllabamba, surrounded by snow-capped mountains.

The Inca Trail

The second day of the trek is the most challenging, as we reach the highest point of the trail at Warmihuanusca aka 'Dead Woman's Pass'. After trekking for approximately 7 km we set up camp in a place called Pacaymayo.

The Inca Trail

On day 9 we trek for 9km through isolated plains, visiting the Runkurakay, Sayacmarca and Phuyupatamarca ruins en route to Winaywayna, the second most important archaeological site after Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu

Winaywayna – Machu Picchu - Cuzco. This morning we set out early to complete the final leg of our incredible journey, hiking past the famous Sun Gate, where we'll catch our first glimpse of Machu Picchu, the magnificent 'Lost City of the Incas'. When we reach Machu Picchu we'll enjoy a guided tour of the ancient citadel and uncover the history of this Incan masterpiece. There will be plenty of free time for photographs before we head down to the town of Aguas Calientes and take the train back to Cuzco for the final night of our tour.
