It’s a well known fact that every kid loves a good sandbox. Beaches are exponentially larger sandbox with free shells and perpetual waves. There are very few landscapes that bring out more joy in a child’s face than a beach. Not all beaches are for everyone and certainly not all beaches are for kids. Here’s a list of the shallowest beaches and calmest surfs, most suitable for family holidays that involve water babies. Smile and wave!
Phra Nang Beach, Krabi, Thailand
Voted several times as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Phra Nang has some of the clearest waters and is surrounded by limestone cliffs. It is easily accessible from Ao Nang by a longtail boat. Its white sands are perfect for large and intricate sandcastle constructions.
Agios Prokopios, Naxos, Greece
Naxos is a blend of ancient ruins, Greek mythology, and crystal clear beaches. It is said that Zeus, the God of the Sky, was raised in a cave in these islands. Agios Prokopios has everything that is needed for a fun and safe family vacation. It is fully equipped with beach beds and umbrellas with a few private spots if you prefer some alone time with your family.
Pasikudah, Sri Lanka
Pasikudah is known to have one of the world’s longest stretches of shallow coastline in the world. Until around 5 years ago, this beach was relatively unknown but its seen a quick rise in popularity. Its golden sands and clear waters extend for miles. It is accessible from Trincomalee, but if you choose, you could even take a seaplane to get here.
Isla Mujeres, Mexico
The calm turquoise blue waters of the island Isla Mujeres has enough activities for the whole family, from snorkelling with tropical fish, to diving amidst coral reefs, to kayaking through the clear seas, to spotting turtles. Isla Mujeres is also amongst the more affordable destinations, for those who don’t fancy a large hole in their pockets after a family
Long Bay Beach, Turks and Caicos
This beach is off the beaten path and absolutely worth it. It is flat, long, shallow, and secluded and is known to be one of the best kite surfing destinations in the world. Its waters are perfect for swimming and splashing around in. Even if you aren’t staying in the immediate vicinity, you could make a visit as it is relatively close to the larger beaches of Providenciales.
Exuma, Bahamas
The Bahamas is synonymous with beaches. The Exuma islands are so beautiful that many Hollywood actors are known to own some. With endless shorelines of sapphire blue waters, these beaches are calm and perfect for kids. Kick back and relax on white sands or swim with the resident domestic pigs and nurse sharks.
Dover Beach, Barbados
Barbados is filled with white sandy beaches and sways gently in warm balmy winds. Water sports are a huge attraction here with jet skiing, boogie boarding, and wind surfing. For the kids, the waters are shallow and safe, with bodyguards on duty through the day. There are no strong currents here, but the waves are moderately active.
Kaafu Atoll
The islands of the Maldives are known to have the best beaches in the world. The Kaafu Atoll has a string of uninhabited islands that are completely secluded and far away from the rigour of daily life. Sink your feet into the warm tropical sands or snorkel through a reef in the clearest seas. These islands have something to offer for all kinds of holidaymakers with spa treatments, world-class cuisine, water sports, and wildlife spotting.
