Itinerary

Touchdown at Siem Reap

Arrive in Siem Reap and reach your hotel, Steung Siem Reap (or similar) via Tuk-Tuk.

If your flight lands early, you can visit the Angkor National Museum.
Discover secrets of the Angkor period on a guided tour of the Angkor National Museum. The interactive museum showcases artefacts from the Golden Era of the Khmer Empire by use of multimedia technology to picture this interesting historical period. (Optional: cost will depend on the number of people who sign up for this)

Siem Reap – Temples + Performances

Before breakfast, at 5 AM, we begin the day by watching the magnificent sunrise at Angkor Wat. Afterwards, a visit to the magnificent Angkor Wat Temple. Built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat was constructed, following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing Mount Meru, the home of the gods.

After breakfast at the hotel, we take a short break to escape the heat.
Resume the Siem Reap sightseeing tour with a visit to the temples of Ta Phrom and Bayon.
In the evening, we will attend a performance of ‘Phare, the Cambodian Circus’. Starting at 7 p.m., professional artists of Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPS) will perform an inspiring show that promotes and helps with developing the Khmer culture. The hour-long show mixes traditional and modern theatre, music, dance, acrobatics, juggling, and contortion woven around the story of Cambodian life and society.

(Please note, we may do this today or the next day.)

Exploring the city

After breakfast, we will visit the pretty temple of Banteay Srei in the countryside. The so-called ‘Citadel of the Women’ remains the best-preserved temple in Cambodia.

We will get an opportunity to see how rice paper is produced by the local communities on our way back. Afterwards, lunch at a local restaurant.

Then head out for a boat trip on the Tonlé Sap. This is Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. Its size varies greatly depending on the season – it swells to about four times its size during the rainy season.

Board a local boat and visit the village of Kampong Khleang.
We will return to our hotel in the evening, to rest after a hectic day of sight-seeing.

Street Food tour of Ho Chi Minh City

Take a flight to HCMC and check in at Hotel Northern (or similar). No activities are planned immediately after arrival.

In the evening we go on a street-food tour in Ho Chi Minh City.

Meet with a passionate foodie and walk through hidden corners of the city to discover the best street food and delve in local culture.

Stroll through a public park, visit a local street restaurant that serves up the best banhxeo. Afterwards, we will move on to Tan Dinh Market.

Next, a short walk to another popular restaurant. All the food we will be trying here are savoury. We will take a break from this and sample a sweet treat from a typical Vietnamese café.

Slowly wind up the evening with a stop at a live music café. Get a chance to interact with the locals while listening to Vietnamese music.

HCMC 101 – Tunnel Networks and Museums

We start today with a half-day tour of Củ Chi Tunnels. The incredible underground tunnel network was constructed by Vietnamese resistance fighters (Viet Cong) during their long struggle for independence. You’ll find the secret trapdoors, underground kitchens, living areas, and meeting rooms. The more adventurous may explore the deeper second- and third-level tunnels.

We then head back to Saigon for lunch and then continue on a city tour.

Visit the War Museum, the Reunification Hall (formerly known as the Presidential Palace). Continue to the Old Post Office and the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon.

Boat ride in the Mekong Delta

Depart at 8 a.m. for a 2-hour drive to Cai Be, deep in the Mekong Delta.

Via local boats, visit the villages in the Mekong, Tan Phong Island, and eat a scrumptious lunch at an ancient house in the Mekong.

We can spend the rest of the day at leisure and return to the hotel.

Arrival at Hội An

Fly from HCMC to DaNang and transfer to Hội An by road. Check in at La Residencia (or similar)

No activities planned for the afternoon, but we recommend hiring cycles and heading over to the beaches.

Walking tour of Vietnam’s most picturesque town – Hội An

Take a walk through the town and see the remarkably well-preserved traditional houses, stop at the Japanese Covered Bridge and a Chinese communal hall – we love strolling through the alleys of this magical town!

Visit some of Hội An’s famous handicraft shops, art galleries, and the town’s vibrant market. Explore smaller lanes and local neighbourhoods to appreciate Hội An’s endless charm.

End the day with a night flight to Hanoi. We’ll check in to the Hanoi Pearl Boutique (or similar)

Journeying through Hanoi’s streets

We start the morning with a half-day guided tour of Hanoi’s highlights. Take a stroll through the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, Ho Chi Minh complex (entry to the Mausoleum cannot be guaranteed).

Walk to Ho Chi Minh’s house (built on stilts), where he lived from 1958 to 1969.

Visit the One Pillar pagoda, built in 1049, one of Vietnam’s most iconic temples.

We will continue the walk through the Old Quarter, learning about Vietnam’s traditional ways of life while crossing the maze of streets and lanes.

Take a break for lunch and then relax for a couple of hours.

In the evening, catch a traditional water puppet show, a unique northern Vietnamese art form depicting scenes from rural life and episodes of national history.

Relaxing cruise in Ha Long Bay

We leave Hanoi early morning and depart for Ha Long Bay, a 4.5 hour drive.

There are a range of activities to choose from on the cruise, or we can kick back and relax. The boat will take us to some caves and to a floating village. You can enjoy a swim in the emerald waters of Ha Long Bay and go kayaking as well.

We’ll spend the night on the boat.

Fly back home

We disembark around 11 a.m. and transfer to Hanoi airport.

We suggest you look at booking a flight that departs after 7 PM.

(If you wish to stay back in Hanoi for a day, please let us know. We can arrange for the hotel room and additional transfers accordingly at extra cost.)
